Andrew Pope is standing in the Shirley 2026 by-election for Southampton City Council. He was previously a Councillor for Redbridge ward for two full four-year terms, between 2011-2019.

Andrew says:

"What issues matter most to you? If you want independent representation, please vote for me.

If you want Councillor experience and care, then vote for me.

I get big things done in Southampton, using my knowledge, persistence and skill, and I get things done for Southampton people by working with them."

What do Shirley residents say about Andrew Pope?

Jan from the Shirley Towers part of Shirley ward says:

"Andrew has taken the time to listen to me. He is willing to listen. He has been helpful.

Sprinklers are brilliant. What Andrew did was brilliant. Sprinklers let people live and protect property.

If people want councillors who do stuff like Andrew does, they have to vote them in. And as my Dad always said, if you don't vote, you can't complain!"

Chris who lives in the Coxford part of the Shirley ward, and who recommended that Andrew stands for Council, says:

“Andrew is genuine, knowledgeable, persistent and experienced. He knows what he is talking about and is very articulate.”

Derek who says he lives in the Maybush part of the Shirley ward (not Coxford, he says it depends who you ask), says:

“Andrew is very enthusiastic and believes in what he is doing. I will be voting for him."

Bogdan who lives in the Old Shirley part of the Shirley ward, says:

“Andrew is very straight-forward and outspoken in his views. In my opinion, he is exactly what we need in Shirley.”

Shirley resident Barry, who Andrew serves now there and also did in when Barry and his family were in Redbridge ward, says:

"Andrew helped us. He listened to the problem we had. He stuck up for us and got it sorted. Andrew is honest, cares and visited regularly and knows the problems in the area. He fights and gets it done. He is one of the few councillors who cares."

Redbridge resident John, who Andrew also served when Redbridge councillor, says:

"When Andrew Pope was our local councillor, of the three councillors we had, he was the one who got things done.

When the residents had a problem with the roadside trees not being maintained, Andrew got that sorted.

When I had a problem with the council tax band my home was in, Andrew came to my house and went through the options, and gave me the advice that helped get the band lowered. I can't see many other councillors doing that.

Unlike most councillors, who owe their allegiance to one political party or another, Andrew, as an independent, can and does, work for the people who elect him."

Andrew is a member of the Independent Network of councillors and campaigners across England and Wales.
